As a textbook publisher, Wild Brilliance Press aims to provide high-quality clinical information to health care professionals, students, and educators in the field of natural medicine. It is our belief that a medical textbook can both preserve the traditional knowledge of medicine and integrate new perspectives from scientific research. In addition, we are also an excellent resource for qualified authors looking to publish medical textbooks related to the field of natural healthcare and offer unique, custom-tailored publishing services.

 

Our Team

Eric Yarnell, ND, RH(AHG) Author / Co-Founder

Eric Yarnell, ND, RH(AHG) graduated from Bastyr University (Seattle, WA) in 1996, after which he completed a two-year residency/apprenticeship with master herbalist and physician Silena Heron, RN, ND in Sedona, AZ. Dr. Yarnell served as chair of the department of botanical medicine at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM; Tempe, AZ). He has served as senior and associate editor of the Journal of Naturopathic Medicine. He has been in private practice since 1997 specializing in men’s health, urology, and nephrology. He is chief medical officer at Northwest Naturopathic Urology (Woodinville, WA). Dr. Yarnell achieved the rank of professor in the botanical medicine department at Bastyr University; he now works as an adjunct and clinical research associate there. He is also adjunct faculty at SCNM and Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (Vancouver, BC, now part of CCNM), the latter of which he played a small role in founding.

He is a co-founder and chief creativity office of Wild Brilliance Press, a publisher of natural medicine textbooks for students and practitioners. He is also president of Heron Botanicals, Inc. an herbal pharmacy providing hand-crafted, whole plant extracts exclusively to health care providers. He is founder and chief scientific officer of Red Root Pharmaceuticals which works to develop botanical drugs. He is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Naturopathic Medicine.

Dr. Yarnell is author of numerous texts and articles including Natural Approach to Gastroenterology 2nd ed, Natural Approach to Urology 2nd ed, and Natural Approach to Prostate Conditions 2nd ed. He is co-author of Clinical Botanical Medicine 2nd ed and the A-Z Guide to Drug-Herb-Vitamin Interactions. He is a contributing author for The Textbook of Natural Medicine 4th ed and Principles and Practice of Phytotherapy: Modern Herbal Medicine 2nd ed. His forthcoming text is Naturopathic Approach to Nephrology. He has lectured widely in North America and the world. He was awarded the American Association of Naturopathic Physician’s Vis Award in 2014, the Borborygmus Award from the Gastroenterology Association of Naturopathic Physicians in 2020, and is two-time recipient of the Naturopathic Medical Student Association’s Faculty of the Year Award, in 2018 and 2020.

Jacqueline Thomas ND is a licensed naturopathic physician who graduated from Bastyr University in 1995. After finishing her doctorate in naturopathic medicine, she completed a clinical residency in primary care and preventive medicine with Dr. Robin Moore in Olympia, WA. She went on to complete advanced training for detoxification, allergy management, and physical medicine at the Center for Optimal Health in Bellevue, WA. Her latest published work is, “Infertility Due to Luteal Phase Defects: Options in Diagnosis, and Treatment With Bio-identical Progesterone,” which was published in the Journal of Naturopathic Medicine.

Dr. Thomas has a passionate commitment to global wellness that led to a two year tour of duty in Sierra Leone, West Africa with the Peace Corps. Following this, she pursued pre-medical studies at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and received a bachelor of science degree in biology and psychology.

Dr. Thomas is fully committed to a vision of medicine that is both compassionate and scientific. Her work focuses on creating a healing partnership with the individuals under her care so that the quality of their lives can be restored and augmented. Her treatments are tailored to the physical and emotional needs of each person individually, relying on strategies that deal with the root cause of a given health problem. In addition to primary care services, Dr. Thomas also offers one-on-one individual therapy for relationship issues, life transitions, and lifestyle management.

Together with her husband, Dr. Gary Piscopo, Dr. Thomas founded the Alpine Valley Natural Health Clinic in 1997, which has grown into one of the most successful naturopathic clinics in Central Washington.

Dr. Thomas’ work with global issues continues to the present day. She continues to foster the spirit of international cooperation through her involvement with various national and international charity organizations.

Gary Piscopo, ND, LAcis a co-founder and CEO of Wild Brilliance Press (WBP), a publishing house that specializes in medical textbooks oriented toward natural and integrative medicine. He is a passionate advocate of personalized education as a primary force for improving patient outcomes and for transforming individual, family, and community health.

Dr. Piscopo is a graduate of Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. In addition to completing a four-year doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine and a three-year master’s degree in East Asian Medicine (which includes acupuncture), he also completed an externship in family counseling with Valley Counseling Associates in Renton, WA.

Originally from New England, Dr. Piscopo became interested in natural medicine while involved in medical research during his service in the US military. He completed his pre-medical studies at the University of California, San Diego and graduated with a degree in psychology. His previous work in the medical field includes twelve years in psychiatric medicine, spanning child, adolescent, and adult inpatient services, at Charter Hospital, Harborview Medical Center San Diego, and Stevens Memorial Hospital.

Through his personal experiences and travels to other countries, Dr. Piscopo has witnessed first-hand the positive impact of education on people’s lives. It was these experiences that became the foundation of his vision for education as an essential pathway to optimal health. As the CEO of WBP, Dr. Piscopo draws upon almost thirty years of experience in the medical field to fuel his collaboration with other thought leaders in the area of integrative medical education.

Dr. Piscopo has written several articles on both naturopathic and Chinese medicine and is the author of In Defense of Natural Therapeutics. He previously worked as a consultant to Thomson Micromedex, a provider of evidence-based clinical knowledge solutions for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other medical professionals.

Dr. Piscopo is an active member of Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians (WANP) as well as the Washington East Asian Medicine Association (WEAMA). He is a founding of the PsychANP, an affiliate of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) devoted to an evolving practice of care with inter-professional exchanges in psychiatry, behavioral medicine, and psychology to refine a mental health practice informed by naturopathic principles.
