Eric Yarnell, ND, RH(AHG) AUTHOR

Dr. Yarnell graduated from Bastyr University in 1996. He completed two years of informal residency in botanical and general naturopathic medicine with Silena Heron, ND in Sedona, AZ and has also practiced in Denver, CO, Phoenix, AZ and Seattle, WA. Dr. Yarnell is an associate professor of botanical medicine at Bastyr University and formerly served as chair of botanical medicine at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine where he also taught urology/men’s health, gastroenterology, and pulmonology. Dr. Yarnell is staff physician at the Bastyr Integrative Oncology Research Center focusing on genitourinary cancer patients. He has a private practice focusing on men’s health, urology and nephrology in Seattle. He is also the vice president and co-founder of Heron Botanicals, Inc. in Seattle, WA.

Dr. Yarnell is former senior editor of the Journal of Naturopathic Medicine. He has a regular column in Alternative and Complementary Therapies on clinical application of botanical medicine. He is also author of Natural Approach to Gastroenterology 2nd ed, Naturopathic Urology and Men’s Health and Phytochemistry and Pharmacy for Practitioners of Botanical Medicine. He is a contributing author to Clinical Botanical Medicine 2nd ed, Textbook of Natural Medicine 3rd ed, Principles and Practice of Phytotherapy 2nd ed, and many other works.

Krutika Parasar Raulkar, MD AUTHOR

Krutika Parasar Raulkar is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation resident at New York Presbyterian Columbia/Cornell where she aims to spread her passion for exercise to her patients. She attended Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, graduating with distinction in Medical Education and Community Service, in addition to being elected into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Raulkar completed her undergraduate study at Brown University, where she was an EMT, Residential Peer Leader, and conducted research on child learning and infant language development.

An exercise enthusiast, she has run three marathons and enjoys a myriad of sports/fitness activities. Dr. Raulkar lives with her husband and son in Riverdale, NY -- her lifelong partners in health and happiness -- and is looking forward to the birth of their daughter this year!

 

 

Gary Piscopo ND, LAc AUTHOR

Gary Piscopo, ND, LAc is a founding member of the Alpine Valley Wellness Center. He is a passionate advocate of personalized education as a primary force for improving patient outcomes and for transforming individual, family, and community health.

Dr. Piscopo is a graduate of Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. In addition to completing a four-year doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine and a three-year master’s degree in East Asian Medicine (which includes acupuncture), he also completed an externship in family counseling with Valley Counseling Associates in Renton, WA.

Dr. Piscopo is an active member of Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians (WANP) as well as the Washington East Asian Medicine Association (WEAMA) Along with his wife, Dr. Jacqueline Thomas, he also supports the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians  (AANP), the national organization that forwards the political and medical agendas of the naturopathic profession.

Originally from New England, Dr. Piscopo became interested in natural medicine while involved in medical research during his service in the US military. He completed his pre-medical studies at the University of California, San Diego and graduated with a degree in psychology. His previous work in the medical field includes twelve years in psychiatric medicine, spanning child, adolescent, and adult inpatient services, at Charter Hospital, Harborview Medical Center San Diego, and Stevens Memorial Hospital.

Through his personal experiences and travels to other countries, Dr. Piscopo has witnessed first-hand the positive impact of education on people’s lives. It was these experiences that became the foundation of his vision for education as an essential pathway to optimal health. As co-founder and CEO of Wild Brilliance Press, a publishing house that specializes in medical textbooks oriented toward natural and integrative medicine, Dr. Piscopo draws upon almost thirty years of experience in the medical field to fuel his collaboration with other thought leaders in the area of integrative medical education.

Dr. Piscopo has written several articles on both naturopathic and Chinese medicine and is the author of In Defense of Natural Therapeutics. He previously worked as a consultant to Thomson Micromedex, a provider of evidence-based clinical knowledge solutions for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other medical professionals.

 

Tracy Magerus, ND AUTHOR

Dr. Magerus graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Exercise and Wellness from Arizona State University. During her undergraduate days, she discovered naturopathic medicine and was so inspired by the philosophy that she knew that this would be her life’s work. Dr. Magerus received her doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and completed a one-year general practice residency at the Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center with a focus in women’s health.

Dr. Magerus  has developed and published numerous study materials with Wild Brilliance Press for the naturopathic licensing exams since 2007. She has a special interest in teaching and continues as adjunct faculty at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine teaching clinical skills and gynecology. Dr. Magerus maintains a thriving private practice in Phoenix, AZ where she treats all ages but with a focus in women's health.  She also oversees an elective off-site rotation for SCNM students at her private practice. 

Dr. Magerus is an active member of the Arizona Naturopathic Medical Association and has served on their CME approval board since 2013. She served as a past voting member of the Board of Directors as well. She also lectures at physician conferences on women's health topics.  Dr. Magerus was voted as one of Phoenix Magazines "Top Doc's" in 2013 and 2015.

In her spare time, Dr. Magerus loves spending time outdoors and enjoys the year round recreation opportunities in Arizona such as hiking, camping and gardening. She lives in Scottsdale with her husband, young daughter, 2 dogs and 2 cats. 

Claire Zimmerman, ND AUTHOR

Dr. Claire Zimmerman received a doctorate in naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University, and a bachelor degree in biology and anthropology at Colorado College. She is a registered clinical herbalist with the American Herbalist Guild and received training at the North American Institute for Medical Herbalism. She is in private practice in Seattle, WA, treating a broad range of conditions, with specialties in digestive health, autoimmune disease, environmental health, and mental health. She is adjunct faculty at Bastyr University and was formerly faculty at NAIMH.

Dr. Zimmerman is a professional member of The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Naturopathic Association of Environmental Medicine, and the Naturopathic Medicine Institute. She is the current Philosophy Fellow for the Foundations of Naturopathic Medicine Project, assisting with the completion of an international textbook on the foundational concepts of naturopathic medicine. Dr. Zimmerman has extensive training in herbal medicine, permaculture, botany, and sustainable livelihood, as well as biofeedback and mindbody medicine. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, rock climbing, backpacking, travelling, and enjoying meals with friends.

Taylor Kaufmann, ND AUTHOR

Continually inspired by the healing potential of the body and mind, Dr. Kaufmann followed her passion of education, nutrition and healthcare into Bastyr University’s Naturopathic Medical Program.  She is a certified Medical Herbalist from the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism and spent her undergraduate years at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Dr. Kaufmann graduated from Bastyr University and went on to complete a one year residency in family medicine at Bastyr Center for Natural Health. She practices integrative, primary care, family medicine and has received extra training in women’s health, adolescent and pediatric health, cardiovascular disease and diabetes as well as in physical medicine, iv therapy and botanical medicine. Additional interests include chronic and acute disease management, geriatrics, pain management and digestive health.
